Indexing your business on Google Maps, via a Google My Business listing, is a great approach in order to get your local business in front of new potential customers. They look for the kind of products or services you provide, and Google suggests service providers near using a map to show your specific location.
Google Maps leads customers straight to your front door – but only if you’ve helped make that door painless for Google to find. To effectively promote your business using Google Maps, use these five steps, recommends Mazdak Mohammadi, owner of BlueberryCloud, a Vancouver-based digital marketing organization that serves companies across the United States and Canada. “The steps for success with Google Maps are simple,” said Mohammadi. He suggests:
Step 1: Develop an effective and complete Google My Business Profile.
Step 2: “Ensure your Google My Business profile is accurate. The phone number should be one with a local area code, and the address should match the address shown on your site. Both of these can influence your Google ranking adversely if not done correctly,” he warned. If your NAP isn’t accurate your listing can be affected across all platforms.
Step 3: “Add a distinct and eye-catching profile image and cover photo. It is worth hiring a local graphic designer… to produce a profile picture that is unique and exceptional,” said Mohammadi.
Step 4: Encourage your satisfied customers to leave a Google Review on your Google My Business profile, said Mohammadi. “Give your clients a direct link to make it simple on them.” The simpler you make it for your clients, the better – and the more likely they’ll help you out.
Step 5: “Use step four diligently with discipline,” said Mohammadi. “Do not let happy clients walk away without submitting a review.”
